Event ID: 32 Title: Inclusive Stewardship: Bridging Gender Gaps for Sustainable Conservation in Africa
This side event will highlight gender equality and social inclusion as essential pillars for effective conservation in Africa's UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. It aims to: (1) elevate the leadership of women, youth, and marginalized groups in biodiversity conservation; (2) address systemic barriers to inclusive decision-making; and (3) share practical, gender-responsive strategies adaptable across diverse Biosphere Reserve contexts. By linking social equity to environmental sustainability, the event underscores that transformative conservation outcomes depend on empowering underrepresented voices and integrating inclusive approaches into policies, governance, and practice. This will foster more equitable, resilient, and sustainable conservation efforts across Africa.
