Event ID: 97 Title: Roundtable on capacities and challenges of Nature based solutions implementation

This roundtable will convene members of the Biosphere Reserve community to share perspectives, experiences, and lessons learned in applying Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation across diverse regions. Building on the practical knowledge of national and regional initiatives, discussions will address current efforts, identify critical gaps, and explore persistent challenges in NbS design, implementation, and scaling.

Participants will highlight innovative approaches that harness ecosystem services to reduce disaster risks while enhancing biodiversity and community resilience. The session will also examine enabling conditions—such as policy frameworks, financing mechanisms, and cross-sectoral partnerships—needed to strengthen NbS uptake.

An interactive feedback tool (Mentimeter / draft here) will capture audience input on priority capacity-building needs, ensuring an inclusive, evidence-based understanding of skills, knowledge, and resources required for effective NbS deployment. Insights gathered will inform the development of tailored training programmes and collaborative learning opportunities in the coming period.

By fostering peer-to-peer exchange and collective reflection, this session aims to advance the operational capacities of the Biosphere Reserve network, catalyse action on NbS, and contribute to global efforts in building resilient, nature-positive societies.
