Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park has been added to Chinese Biosphere Reserves Network

A few days ago, Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park (Baishanzu Campus) was added to Chinese Biosphere Reserves Network (CBRN) at the 23rd Conference of Chinese Biosphere Reserves Network & the 50th Anniversary of UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme held in Yancheng, Jiangsu. This marks the integration of Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park into CBRN.

Since its founding in 1993, CBRN has been committed to Chinese biosphere reserves' development, scientific research, information exchange, public education, etc. Up to now, network members have increased from 45 to 191. Qianjiangyuan National Park has been added to CBRN since 2018.

Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park (Baishanzu Campus) is located in the south of Lishui, situated at the junction of Longquan, Qingyuan, and Jingning. In recent years, Baishanzu Campus has launched infrastructure construction projects, such as ecological species diversity circulation system construction, ecological restoration, protection of rare and endangered animals and plants, scientific research & monitoring of biodiversity, popular science education, cultural experience, and digital management. Through the integration and innovation of modern information technology and park services, it strives to build a national digital life community of parks, to protect the biodiversity.

In recent years, Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park (Baishanzu Campus) has discovered a batch of new global species, including Megophrys baishanzuensis and Megabeleses fengyangshana; Abies beshanzuensis is one of the 12 most endangered plant species in the world, and more than 4,000 trees have been bred in the wild, announcing their official return; in Baishanzu, Cheirotonus jansoni which was declared extinct in 1982 has received attention for many times. The inclusion of Baishanzu Campus in CBRN is the full affirmation of its ecological value and scientific value as well as the practice of the concept of coordinated development. It is of great significance to promote biodiversity protection, natural conservation, sustainable development, scientific research & monitoring, etc.
